Apple working to fix alarming iPhone issue

Posted on 01/05/2024

Apple is addressing a glitch that silenced some iPhone alarms, unexpectedly extending users' sleep time.
People affected by the alarm issue have taken to social media to express their frustrations. One TikTok user reported setting "like five alarms" that failed to sound. Apple has acknowledged the problem but has not yet identified the cause or offered advice on how to prevent further disruptions. It remains uncertain how many users are impacted or if the issue is limited to specific iPhone models.

In the meantime, while waiting for an official solution, people affected by the alarm malfunction can try several practical steps. One approach is to safeguard against user mistakes by double-checking the alarm settings on their phones and making sure the volume is adequately high. Additionally, some speculate that the problem might stem from a flaw in the iPhone's "attention aware features" as suggested by critiques aimed at Apple's designers.

When enabled, these features allow an iPhone to detect if a user is looking at their device and automatically adjust settings accordingly, such as reducing the alert volumes, including alarms, if they are not being actively viewed.

This functionality is available on the iPhone X and later models, as well as the iPad Pro 11-inch and iPad Pro 12.9-inch, according to Apple. Some users on TikTok have suggested that if a user's face is oriented towards the phone while sleeping, these settings might activate and silence alarms. Apple is working on a swift resolution to this issue.

However, until a fix is implemented, its global customer base might need to revert to traditional alarm clocks as a reliable alternative to ensure timely wake-ups
